Mark Ballas is best known for having twinkle toes on Dancing With The Stars, but that’s not where his            talents end.

He’s currently working on new music and says fans will get to hear his sound never soon.

“It’s coming out next year, I’m about three-quarters of the way through,” Mark told OK! about his new album. “I’ve been locked away in Miami with the Timberland camp. I’ve been writing, working and gigging a lot.”

Mark Ballas Talks About Recording with Timbaland for New Album

Posted on November 15, 2012 at 9:15 AM

Mark Ballas called in to “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” to chat about and this season of “Dancing with the Stars” and working on new music with Timbaland.

On Filling In For Derek Hough on DWTS:
When Derek got injured a few weeks Mark was called to step in. “I feel like I’ve done more work since I’ve been kicked off than when I was on,” he says. So, who takes creative control Derek or Mark? “We kind of do that together. He was in there, he was wanting to move around. Me and Shawn [Johnson] we just kind of wanted him to relax and take time to really heal. We actually ended up tying him to the chair with big rubber bands. He was tied to the chair for about an hour and a half. But it was really good, Derek and I have grown up together since we were 9 and 10-years old. My parents trained us both. So it’s really easy for me and him to be creative together. It worked really well and I danced with Shawn in season 8, so it was already kind of natural, we kind of picked up where we left off.”

On Recording With Timbaland:
“At the end of last year and beginning of this year I’ve been working on a new record. I’ve been in Miami and Philadelphia working with the Timbaland camp and stuff. It’s been really fun and cool. I’ve been doing music for awhile, I went to music school when I was younger. Out of all the music I’ve done I feel like this body of work really represents me as a musician and as a guitar player.”

What Can Fans Expect On Mark’s Album?
“I started playing guitar when I was 9. My dad had me in guitar as a flamenco player. My guitar style is very elaborate, very percussive, authentic and rhythmic. But the drums are very urban and the vocals are very pop R&B. So, when you add all that together it’s got a really cool feel. It’s still pop, it’s urban, but it’s got a real rhythmic kind of tribal feel. Still Top 40 and still urban, but still very guitar based and authentic.”

Shawn Johnson Calls Switching Partners on Dancing with the Stars a ‘Lot to Handle’

Switching from one dance to the next, week to week, is tough enough. Switching partners, too? That’s all but impossible.

Yet Shawn Johnson made it look easy Monday on Dancing with the Stars, scoring a perfect 30 for her fusion dance (a seamless blend of tango and the paso doble to one song) with Mark Ballas while her All-Stars partner Derek Hough took the week off with a neck injury.

“They have similar styles and ideas, but when they’re actually dancing with me, it’s completely different,” the former gold-medal gymnast, 20, told PEOPLE after the show, which also included a swing dance marathon. “Getting used to each one, back and forth, was kind of a lot to handle.

But, she says, “It turned out well.”

Her partners agreed. “We didn’t skip a beat,” Ballas, 26, said. Hough, 27, added: “We work differently in teaching methods, but we’re the same creatively … In that sense, I knew there was no other person to cover.”

Johnson and Ballas are hardly strangers, of course – they won season 8 together.

Hough says he’ll be ready to dance again next week but given that perfect score, is he the best partner for the contestant judge Bruno Tonioli dubbed “queen of the night?”

Ballas’ ‘DWTS’ blog: Perfecting our paso & Ed Sheeran Concert

By Mark Ballas, Special for USA TODAYShare

The ‘Dancing’ pro looks back at the cowboy quickstep and forward to Monday’s performance.

2:23PM EST October 8. 2012 – Week 2 done and hopefully 8 more to go.

Last week, we had a rough time with the judges but our awesome and loving fans pulled us through, for which both Bristol and I are super grateful.

It was definitely a challenge doing a country quickstep, but I was happy to try it since dancing to Bristol’s favorite Gretchen Wilson song inspired her. Ultimately, we want to enjoy this process and if it takes a country quickstep, we’re going to do it!

Since my dad’s side of the family is from Houston, shooting guns was not new to me. We had an awesome time and I think Bristol was surprised at how well I handled a revolver! I do have to say, she was a hell of a shot with the shotgun.

The judges slammed us a little for breaking hold this week, but it’s OK. We wanted to use the song to its full capacity and really capture the country feel. Breaking hold is a risk and you never know whether the judges will let you get away with it. We weren’t the only couple to do it this week, although we were the only couple that paid for it.

As always, we want to thank our fans for keeping us alive to dance another week. It’s never fun to see anyone go home and we will all miss Joey Fatone. He’s is such a goof and so much fun backstage that I know his absence will be noticed.

This week is going to be interesting because the celebrities have creative control and get to choose the theme, the costumes and choose a fan favorite song from past seasons. The theme is “Iconic Dance Week,” which should be pretty fun.

I’m enjoying Bristol’s creative input. So far, it’s been a good time, and a new challenge for her. Our dance is the paso, which was one of her highest-scoring dances last time around, so we shall see how this one goes.

After Bristol and I finished the press line on Monday night, I literally dashed out and hopped in a cab to catch one of the best live shows I’ve seen in a while: Ed Sheeran’s concert at The Wiltern. It really goes to show that if you have real musical talent, then all you need is a guitar. Ed’s songs are catchy, meaningful and filled with heart and soul. His lyrics are metaphorical and sensitive. (Can you tell that I’m really into his music?)

Ed is English and having grown up in London myself, I really appreciated the British wit and banter he sprinkled between songs. He kept the audience engaged the whole time and had them singing along in harmony, which was surprisingly in tune. Ed had a lot of swag and confidence on stage, and in my opinion, is one of the best up-and coming-artists around.

It was also cool to be back at The Wiltern, where I recently opened for Robin Thicke at the Voices On Point benefit. The sound quality is amazingly powerful and the acoustics are pristine. After the show, I was able to link up with Ed backstage and we chatted about growing up in London. I gave him major props on an amazing performance. Maybe at some point Ed and I will play a show together, or collaborate on a record. I think our musical styles would compliment each other well.

Back to business. See you all Monday night!

We’re a week away from the “Dancing with the Stars: All-Star” season and all the teams are slammed rehearsing, but Mark Ballas was still nice enough to send us a message about how things are going with partner Bristol Palin.

1st off, he believes that Sabrina Bryan, Shawn Johnson, Gilles Marini and Emmitt Smith are their biggest competition. Although, he’s still just trying to get Bristol to loosen up and says the secret with her is to have fun, go with the flow and get her to laugh!

Entrepreneur, holistic educator, inventor and innovator David Sandoval launches BOBI Girls, Beauties of Business International and BOBI Management Group.

Iman Kerigo (Miss Norway 2010), Marion Dyrvik, (Miss Norway 2011) and Šárka Cojocarová, (Miss Earth Czech Republic), sign with BOBI Management Group in Los Angeles, CA.  To build their careers in Hollywood and Star in “BOBI CODE” TV show.

BOBI Management Group is proud to welcome all three talented models, artists and international beauty ambassadors back to L.A. for the 1st BOBI calendar shoot and initiate their careers as spokespeople and models.  Sandoval and his team will be composing their first Hollywood style Electronic Press Kits, web presence and introductions to Hollywood TV Network and Production Executives to pitch and promote the “BOBI Code” television series.  While in Hollywood they will stay at the Luxurious BOBI Suite working with Sandoval’s developmental team.

BOBI was the brainchild of David Sandoval, holistic educator, entrepreneur, inventor and innovator in the world of entertainment and beauty, who saw a tremendous opportunity to help use BOBI Girls to change the face of beauty forever.  A published author on holistic healing, David was asked to write the nutritional protocols to stem the epidemic of anorexia and bulimia among models and those in the entertainment community. His Super Foods for Supermodels program is now used world-wide and has been featured in major media.  He believes entertainers don’t have to make a choice between their health and their success and that life is an amazing gift that should be experienced to its fullest.

Hollywood Talent Producer and Artist Manager, Rebecca Lambrecht from the Chicane Group has also joined the BOBI Girls management team. Lambrecht has extensive experience with multiple pageant systems and has been a talent manager for many television programs over the last decade. Along with her explosive years on Britney Spears’ management team, she proves to be a dynamic addition to the organization. “I will be working closely with David to help guide the careers of these promising young women and heavily promote the development of the “BOBI Code” TV Series. From the moment I heard about the BOBI purpose and philosophy, I was immediately passionate about David’s overall vision and I look forward to furthering the “BOBI Code” as well as the growth and success of the company as a whole.”

“BOBI’s mission is to forever transform the world’s perception of beauty. To empower women to pursue their dreams without fear of failure or being exploited and to take chances, states Sandoval.  ”BOBI will become a powerful international business broker, as well as the first holistic management company.  Its purpose is to showcase BOBI talent and provide endless opportunities and build the BOBI brand. BOBI will not just be a business, it is an exclusive club of national beauty champions coming together to turn their moment in the spotlight into a lifetime of financial security and lasting relationships.”

The very first inaugural BOBI Summit was held with Cojocarová, Dyrvik, Kerigo, and several other International beauties in L.A. between April 5-16 at the BOBI suite downtown, where history was destined to be made as they decided to come together and set a brand new paradigm shift in the long established history of pageants to promote their careers and common causes as a group.

In order to create harmony and an identity for the group they decided to create a code to guide them.  This became known as the BOBI Code, which then became the inspiration for a new Reality T.V. show that follows these talented beauties as they attempt to turn their 15 minutes of fame into a career in the cut throat world of Hollywood entertainment.

Being a “Big Picture” kind of guy, Sandoval is building big futures for BOBI Girls. “Once BOBI girls get one million twitter followers, which we will be working on diligently, we will get our own BOBI internet TV channel to showcase the BOBI girls’ talent and business opportunities.”  Stated Sandoval.  “But it won’t stop there.  BOBI girls will eventually enjoy worldwide travel with free accommodation in world media centers like Beverly Hills and New York, all paid from the BOBI proceeds. This is a chance of a lifetime to make the most of their current success and become thriving international businesswomen.  BOBI girls’ goals are to align themselves with companies and causes that share their vision of a safer, cleaner and more harmonious world.”

BOBI Girls will provide strength in numbers thereby allowing each member the forum to fulfill their advocacy/promise to make the world a better place. To use BOBI influence to turn that promise into action. All BOBI models, actresses, spokespersons will use their talent to promote and be active in social causes.  Sandoval is strict in pointing out that BOBI Girls have no political or religious affiliations and will be advocates for tolerance and nonviolence. “We also take a strong stand against human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and spousal abuse, which is still too common in today’s world,” stated Sandoval.

David Sandoval is a world-renowned whole food nutritionist, disease prevention, and anti-aging expert. As the founder of Purium Health Products (, Sandoval uses his vast expertise in natural healing to formulate world-class organic superfood blends. Purium was created to provide people access to plant based nutritional products that could change their lives. He has a long history of creating superior health products based upon his belief that God and mother nature have provided everything the human body needs to live a long life free of disease. An expert on childhood obesity and diabetes, Sandoval created the revolutionary diabetes-fighting product Scoop of Greens ( after miraculous success working with MTV star and type II diabetic Fatman Scoop.

Sandoval says, “I created this program in response to the epidemic of bulimia, anorexia and other eating disorders prevalent in the modeling and entertainment business.” But Sandoval is keen to explain that ‘Superfoods For Supermodels’ is not a diet. He adds, “Instead it features realistic guidelines for creating exceptionally healthy, lean, beautiful bodies through pure, organic, green food nutrition and core fitness.” His amazing program also helps to build confidence and strength while focusing on taking personal responsibility for one’s own destiny.

BOBI Management Group is very excited to be managing these women who will grace the organization with their beauty, life, brilliance, elegance, great energy and most of all talent.

APJ’s immediate goal is to serve children and their families in the poorest communities in Haiti by supporting programs in education, health, and dignity. Celebrity Collector – Dancing With The Stars’ Mark Ballas

Mark Ballas became a household name in 2007 when he landed a spot on the popular ABC series Dancing with the Stars.

A native Houstonian, he moved to London at an early age to attend the world-renowned Italia Conti Performing Arts School. His passion for dance naturally came from his parents. Both were dancers and his mother was an award winning Latin American dancer. He earned a full scholarship to college and won The British Open to the World, The US Open to the World even the gold medal at the Junior Olympics. I think it’s safe to say Ballas is very talented.

His talents didn’t end with dancing. By the age of 12 he was writing his own music and formed a band called “2B1G” – 2 Boys 1 Girl with his DWTS co-star Julianne Hough. You would think as his dancing career grew, his interest in singing would fade. Not so! Even with his demanding schedule he found time to produce his 2011 CD titled “HURT LOVE BOX”. The CD is a MUST buy, and can be heard on his Facebook page:

Is there any talent I haven’t listed? Oh yes, Ballas is also an actor, and a skilled guitar player. Perhaps the love of music is what prompted his interest in collecting guitars…

RH: With your busy schedule and varied talents, you managed to squeeze in time for a private passion; guitars! Tell me more about what types of guitars capture your attention.

BALLAS: I love Martin guitars. It’s all about whatever feels good and I like to be able to feel the tone and be percussive with the instrument. Being classically trained on a flamenco guitar, I love my new Kremona. I also am a fan of Fender Strats.

(Ballas Guitar Collection – Photo Credit: Michael Becker)
RH: Fender and Martin are definitely brands to collect. How many guitars do you have in your collection?

BALLAS: Hmm. Let me see… I have five Martins, four Fender Strats, two Les Pauls, an Ovation, Takamine, Kremona and a PRS.

RH: PRS and Kremona are names I have never heard. I love that aspect of collecting. There is always something new to learn. So tell me, if money were no object, what would be the one guitar you would acquire, and why?

BALLAS: I’m in the process of designing and building a custom Martin. The perfect guitar is a one of a kind made perfectly for me; a guitar designed for a percussive flamenco rhythmic feel with steel strings, with a vibrant fun color and custom inlay with massive detail.
(Ballas Guitar Collection – Photo Credit: Michael Becker)

RH: How exciting to have your own Martin guitar! How many guys would love to say that!! In the collecting world, the thrill of the hunt plays a large role in excitement of acquiring things. Can you tell me about your most exciting find?

BALLAS: When I became the first ambassador for Martin Guitars and got my guitar, that was a rewarding feeling and probably the most exciting “find.”

RH: Your fans know you as the amazing dancer on Dancing with the Stars, but tell us about your “OTHER” job.

BALLAS: I’ve been a musician since I was nine years old. I grew up partly in England and partly in Houston, TX, and actually began playing guitar before dancing. I started professionally when I was sixteen on West End shows, national touring theater shows and have been called in to play for many major label recording artists in the studio for which I’m very grateful. I’m currently working on my first full studio-production solo album. This is going to be an all new feel than what you’ve heard from me before. I think the best way to describe it is percussive guitar / pop with urban beats and influence. There’s a little Latin flair that pops up here and there also.

RH: Sounds sexy! Is there anyone you would have interest in collaborating with musically? Anyone you are currently working with?

BALLAS: I’m currently working with producers and writers whom I have the utmost respect for. I write all my own music but I love collaborating with other talented industry people. I’ve been in with Wizz Dumb and Jozzy (Dope By Accident) out of Miami, Timbaland and his whole camp, the Beamer Boyz, Jim Beanz, Thom Russo, Andre Meritt, and Sha. A list of artists I’d like to collaborate with or do a feature with? John Mayer, Robin Thicke, Ellie Goulding, B.O.B., Florence Welch (Florence And The Machine), Ed Sheeran, Nora Jones, Shakira. Also, Missy Elliot and Justin Timberlake of course…

RH: So many on that list I love as well. Do you see any other collections in your future? Perhaps autographs from all of the celebrities you have worked with on DWTS?

BALLAS: Well, I love sneakers, so I think my next collection will be all kinds of dope and wacky sneakers.

RH: I’d love a sneak preview at what is in store for Mark Ballas next. Anything you care to share?

BALLAS: My album is really my main priority and project. I recently signed with new management and the support from my publisher, BMG is really making everything come together. I’m looking forward to connecting with a label partner and releasing an album that portrays who I am and what my music is all about. I can’t wait to share it with everyone. I’m concentrating all of my energy and passion on this project.

Thanks Mark, and when you bring your music to Houston, call me!
